Six Sigma Jump Start
"Sigma"
is a metric used to reflect how well a process is working. Specifically,
the sigma value tells you how often defects are likely to occur. The
higher the sigma value, the less likely a process will produce defects. A
sigma value of six represents only 3.4 defects per million opportunities -
near perfect quality.
Foe example, if you played 100 rounds of golf per year, and played at:
- 2 sigma - you'd miss 6 putts per round
- 3 sigma - you'd miss 1 putt per round
- 4 sigma - you'd miss 1 putt every 9 rounds
- 5 sigma - you'd miss 1 putt every 2.33 years
- 6 sigma - you'd miss 1 putt every 163 years!
Motorola
and General Electric Company (GE) are leading the way in six-sigma
processes. Other companies now implementing six-sigma programs are
Allied Signal, Lockheed Martin, Texas Instruments, Johnson & Johnson
and more.
ProcessModel as a Corporate Standard
GE selected ProcessModel as the corporate standard for six-sigma
projects requiring in-depth analysis in July 1997. GE is currently
utilizing ProcessModel in every major business division. Feel free

GE's Six-Sigma Experience
