Quality - The Competitive Advantage
A key component of competitive advantage is cost effective quality
improvement. Firms capable of producing high quality products maintain their
competitive advantage through continuous improvement process.
Historically, the approach to quality has been one of inspection of the final
product, a technique still practiced by many firms. The focus was on filtering
rather than the manufacturing process. Today, the focus is on Continuous
Improvement where we take a broader view – the process begins with product
concept and extends through the life cycle of the product to ultimate maturity
and phase out. This definition matches the concepts of Total Quality
Management (TQM) relating all of the processes
in the organization that contribute directly or indirectly to quality as the
customer perceives it. Thus most, if not all, business functions and activities
(i.e., processes) are interrelated and none stand alone; not purchasing,
shipping, engineering, product design, manufacturing, order processing or
marketing.
Therefore it is critical that all employees become an integral part
of:
- process improvement
- product quality improvement
- service quality improvement
Tools for Process and Quality Improvement
We offer several workshops designed to help employees learn various tools to
improve the process and product/service quality. The workshops cover the entire
gamut – from basic tools of statistics to statistical process control to
design and analysis of experiments. The workshops are geared for people of
diverse background – from those who are new to statistics to those who are
familiar with statistical analysis. However, we can work with your
organizational needs and customize them to suit a particular group – say with
focus on manufacturing or focus only on advanced aspects of the workshop. We
take pride in offering a personal touch where we will work in small groups after
the workshop to make sure the attendees get the full benefit – i.e., they
fully understand the material covered.
